HOW TO BECOME A MEMBER

The Junior League of Nashville (JLN) is an organization of women of all races, religions, and national origins who demonstrate an interest in and a commitment to voluntarism. We welcome your interest in learning more about membership admission to JLN.

Requirements for Admissions 2003-2004 to the JLN include a commitment from two active or sustaining members of the Junior League in good standing. The candidate and the sponsor and co-sponsor are required to attend one of the three Admissions information sessions scheduled for January 15, 2003 (11:30 a.m.), February 12, 2003 (7:00 p.m.) and February 13, 2003 (7:00 p.m.) at the Junior League Training and Conference Center, located at 2202 Crestmoor, near Green Hills Mall.   During this meeting, information will be given out about Junior League, the provisional* year as well as membership admission applications. All application forms and fees should be completed and received at Junior League headquarters by March 1, 2003.

*Candidates are admitted to JLN as provisional members for one year. During that year, provisionals learn about JLN, experience several training opportunities, attend membership meetings, meet new friends and have FUN.

 

HOW TO TRANSFER INTO THE JUNIOR LEAGUE OF NASHVILLE

If you wish to transfer to JLN, you must send a request in writing to your home league. JLN is unable to begin your transfer without authorization from your original league. If you need the address or phone information of any league you may contact our Corresponding Secretary ( 269-9393 x103)who will be happy to help with your request.

 

HOW TO TRANSFER OUT OF THE JUNIOR LEAGUE OF NASHVILLE

To transfer out of the JLN to another city you must make a request in writing to the Corresponding Secretary at JLN Headquarters. That request must include the league city into which you wish to transfer into as well as your new address in that league city. When we receive your request, we will forward it to your desired league city who will contact you. This process can take up to 90 days. Once the paperwork has been returned to JLN, we will remove you from our roster and refund any outstanding dues owed.

 

FIVE YEAR ACTIVE STATUS

A member is eligible for a sabbatical after 5 active years. They must still pay dues, but are exempt from placement & fundraising duties. The meeting requirement is reduced to three a year. Please send a written request to the Placement Chair to activate a sabbatical request.

 

TEN YEAR ACTIVE STATUS

Any member who has been active for over ten years or is in their eleventh year of active membership is eligible for the ten year active privilege. The member may either chose to attend three meetings or complete a placement. You must notify the Placement Chair of your choice. The member is also eligible for an additional sabbatical year.

 

BABY LEAVE

New mothers are entitled to a reduction in placement hours as well as two meeting credits. The leave period is three months, one of which must be the month the baby was born or adopted into your home. To activate a leave, make a written request to our Placement Chair at Headquarters.

 

LEAVE OF ABSENCE

In special circumstances a leave of absence may be granted to a member. Please make a request to the Placement Chair.

 

RESIGNATION IN GOOD STANDING

In some circumstances, our choice to find balance is to resign from the JLN. A written notification must be sent to the Corresponding Secretary. Please know that she may call on you to counsel you about other options and to learn about your JLN experience. You may reinstate into the JLN at any time for a $25 AJLI fee by contacting our Corresponding Secretary.
